We have received many requests for clarification on our blocking policy. I think we have been sending some mixed messages about the matter, so I would like to clear it up for you all.
You are commenting in a Nation and you are blocked, for what you feel is an unjust reason. What can you do about it?
Nation Admins, as part of the power they have for creating their own Nation and monitoring it, can block members at their discretion. This means for whatever reason they deem fit; it does not have to be because you are violating the Code of Honor. We’d prefer if Admins would use prudence when blocking, publicly post their reasoning, and not block someone simply because they don’t agree with that poster. However, none of that is a requirement. Here is a direct quote from our support article:
As an Admin, you can delete comments in your Nation and block users directly from the discussion. We suggest posting an explanation when you delete comments and/or block users to explain what Nation bylaws or parts of the Code of Honor the comments or users violated, but you don't have to.
If you are an Admin blocking people you don't agree with, you may want to consider making your Nation gated or even better, Invite Only. Having an open Nation in that situation makes little to no sense.
So what can you do as a blocked user?
You have many options when blocked by a Nation:
- Form your own Nation and take control of your own community!
- Join the Spirit and the Purpose. This is a Moderator-run Nation which won’t block you willy-nilly.
- Report your block via support, explaining in detail the back story and also why you are reporting the block. This should be tied to a CoH violation of some sort. We will take a look at these and take action on a case-by-case basis.
I’d like to just reiterate here though that our policy, for the most part, is no policy.
