A Moderator's Trip to Louisville

I am not going to lie. I was nervous going to Louisville for the VineMeet.

Going into the experience, I didn’t know what to expect. I am still fairly new to the Vine and spend the majority of my time wielding a heavy hand on users in violation of the Code of Honor. I haven’t really had time to build relationships with Viner’s. As you can imagine, I was pretty nervous about how everyone would react to the new girl in town, with a reputation for being a bit strict (although I think Tyler is the strict one!)

 My fears were completely put to rest just seconds after my arrival when I was warmly greeted by Auger and Dowser with big hugs and kisses. I am a hugger too, so it put me at ease. Those two really know how to make a girl feel welcome.

And so did everyone else. I was truly amazed at how kind everyone was to Tyler and I. Auger gave us a ride to the store. Mrs. D took the time to help me make my hat (I was a bit lost). Dowser’s hubby spent the entire weekend being my personal tour guide and giving me a wealth of information on everything from picking horses to steamboats. This guy knows a lot and I loved it. RSL8R even let Tyler and I use his truck to go out on the town (if he only knew what a terrible driver I am).

Beyond the acts of kindness, it was great just to connect with users on a more personal level. I had some excellent conversations with CuriousG, BiteMore, Rottlady, Old Fogey, and Sydney - 5. Towards the end of the weekend, we were all sitting around a table outside of the hotel, and it felt as if we’d known each other for years.

As much as I enjoyed all of the activities Dowser had planned for us, the real treat for me was getting to meet some of the wonderful users of Newsvine. You guys are what makes the site great and it has definitely inspired me to take some more time out of my day to take part in your discussions and articles. I loved getting to know everyone better and look forward to getting to know more users in the future!

Oh, and I will be taking a trip back someday for the Derby!

Sally, it was truly a pleasure meeting you and Tyler! I always had a lot of respect for both of you - you have really tough jobs - and so the meeting was just the icing on the cake! To say we had fun is sort of an understatement! We had an unmitigated blast, and I really hope to do it again someday!

BTW: you really looked great in your Derby Hat!

It truly was a pleasure to meet you Sally, as you mentioned, most of us don't get to see you much. (we're the good kids and don't cause much trouble) So meeting you in person really made a bunch of difference to me. Thanks for coming and your nice words here.

Whenever the VineMeet is mentioned it leaves me with such longing. I hope everyone will show up for the Roswell meet. I've been reduced to coercing my family to assist in getting me there. From the photos I could see how much wonderful energy was created with the meet. I also cherish the photos and the ability to visualize the "buddies" I interact with here on the vine. A massive Mahalo from me.

Aww, Sally, you're so sweet! Such nice words about dear Dowser and me! I'm blushing a bit! (yea, I do blush, and admit it, but it usually takes a very special person to get me to do it, and you're definitely one of them!)

You're right tho, the best part of the 'meet was just getting to know everyone, and the times we all had the chances to just sitting down and chatting! And you're right too, you were a bit nervous! ROFL! I'll let you in on a little secret, we all were! *grin*!

I was, and still am, absolutely delighted you and Tyler made it to the 'meet! I know it was a thrill for everyone to meet you both! And I'll do it again in a New York minute! (Rachel's Roswell 'meet? (hint hint hint hint hint hint hint! *grin*!) Resistance is futile! Both of you simple must do all you can to make it! Please please please please please! Try to make it! If you do, I SHALL be there! How could I not, after the great times in Louisville!
